Daruk's Protection
Daruk's Protection puts a crystal barrier around you that reflects the next hits as if you had perfect-guarded them. You get it from Divine Beast Vah Rudania with the Gorons. It has three layers.
What the crystal eats
A Guardian beam, a Lynel swing, an arrow and most melee hits pop one layer and stagger the attacker if a parry would have. You do not press the shield button. Holding a shield is still useful, because the crystal only covers the hits that connect while it is up.
Three layers go quickly if you stand in a camp and let every Bokoblin swing. Spend them on the beam you are not ready to parry. Once the crystal is gone, the cooldown is long. Check the icon before you walk into the castle gate.
The Goron quest
Goron City sits on Death Mountain. You need fireproof protection just to reach the beast. Yunobo helps you board Vah Rudania. Fireblight Ganon is inside. Daruk's Protection is the reward.
It does not stop falls, lava or weather. A crystal will not save a missed climb. It also does not replace learning the parry, because the castle has more beams than you have layers. Let the crystal take the first beam, then parry the second yourself while the attacker is still recovering.
